Summer is here and more than anything, I wish I would win that million, fuck work and just travel around Europe, to all the great outdoor music festivals.
I want to be crammed into a music loving crowd of people. I want to sing at the top of my lungs, muddy and wet from rain and sweat, and drink cheap beer all day. I want to be inside the music and outside of the world.
There is only one downside. It costs to enter. And I am broke as a church’s rat.
I have already missed “Where the Action is” in Stockholm. “Peace and Love” where my favourite Swedish rock band Mando Diao will rock their home town Borlänge, is sold out. “Hultsfred” with Kings of Leon, The Killers, White Lies + an impressive line-up of Sweden’s greatest is looking very unlikely at the moment, with tickets way too expensive and being my first week at my Stockholm job, there is no way I can get time off. The festivals up north are not happening, nor will I be able to leave the country. Not even to “Roskilde” in Denmark.
When I saw that modern time’s most soulful ladies Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill were blessing the island of Skeppsholmen, at “Stockholm Jazz”, I was ready to buy the ticket hands down. A few days later, they announced that Lauryn was cancelling. I am indecisive now.
BUT. One thing is for sure.
In mid August I will pack my heart and all the loving memories I hold to the music of Bon Iver and travel “Way Out West”, to Gothenburg. Essentially, I would go just for him.
But the fact that Glasvegas, Band of Horses, Vampire Weekend, Arctic Monkeys, Fever Ray, Grizzly Bear, Woodpigeon, Beirut, Calexico, Wilco, Antony & the Johnsons + many more are playing, is a bonus I embrace.
Late summer or not, there is always music to go ‘round. Enjoy yours!
