Merge with others
I am actually too tired to write now. My bones are aching, my face is warm from the sun and my eyelids are concrete curtains ready to drop at any moment. I just got back from a few hours of sea kayaking with my friends and as the golden sun hit their faces I smiled from a place I have not smiled from in a long time.
Happiness is only real when shared…
I have been keeping to myself a lot lately, thinking I’ve had stuff to figure out. But really, the major conclusions I have made have been in the presence of others and in moments when I have least expected insight.
Why does he love music so much? Is it because of the closeness and the breathing space at the same time? Because it asks for nothing?
Am I choosing to be alone because of comfort? Are my insecurities holding me back from experiencing a life I’ve always wanted?
Some people fear loneliness, others companionship. But whatever it is, we should go towards it. Let it strip us, unwrap us and reveal us.
For that is facing truth. And truth is what we fear the most.
.
I come to you without me, come to me without you.
Self is the thorn in the sole of the soul.
Merge with others,
If you stay in self, you are a grain, you are a drop,
If you merge with others, you are an ocean, you are a mine.
by Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi
Good times with good friends make good memories to smile about don’t they. Sounds like a great day. Hard work kayaking in the sea, but very satisfying. Bet you slept like a baby…
real wisdom there. the only feeling you really experience alone is loneliness. people surround themselves with things to help them forget
I am so glad you shared happiness today. Once again your words met me where I am – I’ve been keeping to myself, feeling very depressed about life all the while knowing I fell better around people.
Barbara, thank you for sharing! Know you have the strenght to pick yourself up again, but sometimes its easier with a little help from your friends. The Beatles knew what they were talking about! 🙂

Very poignant. Thanks.
Yes, yes, yes. To join with others is to know happiness, yet in our aloneness, there is wisdom there as well. Always, always I say, walk toward what we fear and loathe the most, because that is where truth lies…….
god, we’re so similar. i love what you wrote about closeness and breathing space at the same time. i know that one well, love.
oh you.

From another Sufi I found this poem it might sound like it contradict Rumi’s poem.
But what if Oneself is in the whole and the Whole is in Oneself..
