THINK before you speak
Remember to THINK before you speak:
T: is it True ?
H: is it Helpful ?
I: is it Inspiring ?
N: is it Necessary ?
K: is it Kind ?
* A modern version of a quote by Sri Sathya Sai Baba, Indian Spiritual Leader born in 1926: Before you speak, think: Is it necessary? Is it true? Is it kind? Will it hurt anyone? Will it improve on the silence?
“Will it improve on the silence?” is my favorite part π
Yeah but then again, why speak at all? π
If only people thought about this more.. π great post
I know, it sounds so easy yet awareness is one of the biggest challenges of our society. It requires constant reminders, and it requires that we LISTEN to our own words and PAY ATTENTION to our own actions. I think we live too much outside ourselves.
Mmm. Love this. Thanks for posting. Are you familiar with The Four Agreements, by Don Miguel? It’s fantastic little book chalk full of wisdom.
The first “agreement” is:
BE IMPECCABLE WITH YOUR WORD
Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of the word in the direction of truth and love.

No, I didn’t know of Don Miguel but I had a look at the website and the message rang true (and very familiar π As I said earlier, we need constant reminders, it doesn’t matter from who or where, as long as we stay inspired, AND take action! π

I also like “will it improve on the silence?” The modern version seems to lose something there.
